January 2022 Technique Squad Blog Hop

Welcome to the January 2022 Technique Squad Blog Hop! I’m so excited to be part of this fun collaboration with fellow demonstrators. This month’s hop is Creator’s Choice, so you’re sure to see a variety of techniques along the way.

I decided to go with an old technique, coloring with watercolor pencils and then using a blender pen over the pencil. It may not be to everyone’s taste, but I love the sort of rustic look. I also appreciate that for just $28.50 (USD), you get 23 watercolor pencils to work with (the first assortment has 13 including white, the second has 10), so less than $1.25 per pencil.

If you purchase the larger set, a pack of Blender Pens, the Every Chapter Stamp Set (it’s a set of just one large stamp), and a roll of Gorgeous Grape 3/8” Sheer Ribbon, you can earn the Simply Marbleous Designer Series Paper as a Sale-a-Bration item.

Back to the technique. I stamped the image with Jet Black StazOn Ink onto Basic White Cardstock. I then colored the books, teacup, and glasses with whatever colors I wanted with the pencils. When blending the pencil, I tried to use a light touch with the blender pen since the cardstock will start to pill if you use too much.

I realized that the image of books would be quite appropriate with a book binding fun fold, and decided to go for a monochromatic background. It was a little challenging to figure out how to trim the image so it looked good since it’s almost the full width of the right section.. I suppose I could have made the left binding a bit narrower, but then I realized the image might look great if it was fussy cut. Fussy cutting is not something I like to do, but it turned out just how I imagined.

With an image that includes its own sentiment, all I needed to do was add the ribbon and a few Iridescent Rhinestones Basic Jewels to complete my card.
